How Nanotech Computers handles your information across the Simply GPA app and website.
Updated 18 August 2026
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Nanotech Computers (Pty) Ltd (“Nanotech Computers”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Simply GPA app for iOS (the “App”) and this website at www.simply-gpa.com (the “Website”, together the “Services”). We are the developer of the App and the party responsible for data processing.
We process information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 of South Africa and, where it applies, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The short version
- Your grades stay on your device. Courses, terms and any scale you build are stored on the device and we cannot see them.
- iCloud sync is optional and off until you switch it on. When it is on, that record is mirrored into your own private iCloud, which we cannot read either.
- Purchases are the one thing that leaves. They are handled by the App Store and by RevenueCat, our purchase infrastructure provider, and nothing else does.
- No adverts, no account, no tracking. There is nothing to sign into, and no analytics about you beyond your own purchases.
Information the App handles
Everything in this list is stored on your device. We neither receive it nor have access to it, except where the section on purchases says otherwise:
- Your courses and terms. Course names, grades, credits, rigour tags, the terms you save, and any prior credit balance you enter.
- Any grading scale you build. Its rows, points and bands.
- Your settings. The scale you chose, your grading rules, rounding and display preferences, and the counters behind the free tier.
- Purchase status. Whether you hold the Simply GPA Pro entitlement. See “Purchases” below.
The App asks for no personal details at all. There is no account, no sign-up and no email address, and it never asks for your name, your school or your student number.
Device permissions
The App requests no device permissions. It does not use the camera, the microphone, your photos, your location, your contacts or your calendar, and it sends no notifications. There is nothing here for you to grant or to withdraw.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is part of Simply GPA Pro and ships switched off. Nothing is mirrored anywhere until you turn it on yourself in Settings.
When it is on, your terms, courses and custom scales are kept in the private database of your own iCloud account, in a container reserved for the App. Only you can read it. We have no copy, no access and no way to obtain one, and the record is governed by Apple’s iCloud terms and the Apple Privacy Policy while it is there. Switching sync off stops the mirroring, and removing the App’s data from iCloud is done in the iOS Settings app under your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage.
Purchases
Simply GPA Pro is a single in-app purchase. It is handled by Apple through the App Store, and we never see or receive your payment card details.
To activate your purchase and restore it on your other devices, the App uses RevenueCat as its purchase infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives the App Store transaction for validation, together with a random identifier its software generates for the installation. It receives no name, no email address, no grades and no usage data, and the App explicitly turns off the collection of the advertising and vendor identifiers that its software would otherwise send. See the Apple Privacy Policy for how Apple processes purchase data.
This is what the App Store privacy label refers to: purchase history, used to make the App work and to understand how the purchase performs, not linked to your identity and not used to track you.
Information on the Website
The Website is a static information site. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, and does not track you. It is served from cloud storage behind a content delivery network, which may retain standard, short-lived server logs to keep the site secure and reliable. We do not use these logs to identify you.
What we do not do
- We do not require an account, and do not ask for your email, phone number or real name, except to reply if you email us for support.
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with anyone for their own purposes.
- We do not show advertising and use no advertising identifiers.
- We do not use third-party analytics software, and we hold no analytics about you beyond your own purchases.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites: the App declares no tracking and no tracking domains in its privacy manifest.
- We do not read, upload or analyse your grades, and we cannot: no copy of them reaches us.
The App Store
The App is distributed through Apple’s App Store. When you download, update or purchase within the App, Apple processes that transaction under the Apple Privacy Policy. Any aggregate download or usage statistics Apple shows us cannot identify you.
Children's privacy
Simply GPA carries a 4+ age rating and is used by school pupils as well as university students. It collects no personal information from anyone, child or adult: there is no account, no advertising, no tracking and no permission to grant. The only information that leaves the device is the purchase itself, which carries nothing identifying about the person who made it.
If you are under the age at which you can consent to data processing where you live, use the Services with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Because what the App handles stays on your device, most of this is self-service: delete the course or term in the App, or delete the App to remove everything it stored on the device at once. If you switched iCloud sync on, that copy sits in your own iCloud account and is yours to remove in the iOS Settings app. For the purchase information our provider processes on our behalf, contact us and we will assist. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].
You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa, or, under the GDPR, with your local data protection authority.
International data transfers
We are based in South Africa, and the Website is served globally via a content delivery network. Where our providers process limited data in other countries, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection as required by applicable law.
Security
Because the App keeps your courses, terms and scales on your device, there is no central store of them for anyone to breach. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the Website and the App. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date above.
