Getting started

Simply GPA is ready the moment it opens. Setup asks two or three quick questions about how your school grades. That takes about twenty seconds, and then it gets out of the way. There is no account, no sign-up and no feature tour.

  • Add your courses: type a name, pick a grade, and set the credits. There is no limit on how many courses a term can hold.
  • Enter a grade three ways: as a letter, as a percentage, or as points earned out of points possible. You can mix all three in the same term.
  • Check the figure: tap Show the maths to see every quality point, every credit hour, the division, and the rounding rule that produced the last digit.
  • Save the term when you are happy with it. Nothing is stored until you say so, and your cumulative GPA updates itself from what you have saved.

Grading scales

Eleven scales ship with the app, covering 4.0 with and without plus and minus, weighted 5.0, percentages, 10 point and 4.0 CGPA, 5 point CGPA, 7 point and 9 point GPA, UK degree classification, and GCSE 9 to 1. Setup asks which one you use before it shows you a number, so your first result is right for your school.

If none of them match, build your own row by row: a label, its grade points, an optional percentage band, and whether it counts towards the GPA. Custom scales are free, and there is no limit on how many you make. The grading scales guide lists what each built-in scale assumes.

Settings carries the rules that differ between schools: whether an A+ is worth 4.0 or 4.3, whether a minus lands on 3.7 or 3.67, how much Honours and AP or IB add, whether the figure is rounded or truncated, and whether credit hours count at all.

What is free, and what Pro adds

Working out a grade you have already earned is free, and stays free. That means an unlimited number of courses, every grading scale including one you build yourself, weighted and unweighted figures side by side, the show the maths panel, and your first two saved terms with the cumulative GPA they produce.

The free tier has two limits. The planner runs three times on each term you are working on, and one export is included. Looking at the planner costs nothing: a run is only counted when you have changed something and it has an answer for you.

Already saved two terms and want to save a third? You can replace a saved term instead, free, from the same screen that offers the unlock. It asks before anything is replaced, and it can be undone.

Simply GPA Pro is one payment of US$6.99 once. It adds unlimited saved terms, the target planner and the required-final solver without a run limit, multi-term trend charts, unlimited PDF and CSV export, and optional iCloud sync. Prices are shown in US dollars; the App Store shows the final price in your own currency before you buy.

Purchases, restoring and refunds

Pro is a single non-subscription purchase. There is no renewal, no expiry and nothing to cancel, and there is no free trial to forget about.

  1. Restore a purchase on a new device by signing in with the same Apple Account you bought it with, then choosing Restore purchases in Settings, or Restore on the unlock screen. It is available whether or not the app currently thinks you are unlocked.
  2. Family Sharing is switched on for the purchase, so the people in your family group can unlock Simply GPA with it too.
  3. Refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose “Request a refund”, and select your purchase.

Your grades and your privacy

We cannot see your grades. They stay on this device unless you switch on iCloud sync, and then they go to your own private iCloud, which we cannot read either. The App Store and RevenueCat handle purchases, and nothing else leaves the device.

There are no adverts, no account to sign in to, and no tracking or analytics beyond your own purchases. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

iCloud sync is part of Pro and ships turned off. Switch it on and your terms, courses and custom scales are kept in your own private iCloud, so a new phone starts where the old one left off. It needs an iCloud account signed in on the device, and it takes effect the next time you open the app. It is a mirror of what is on your device rather than a backup service, so keep an export if you want a copy you control.

Export

Settings can export your saved terms as a PDF or as a CSV. The PDF carries your cumulative figures and each term with its courses, grades, credits and rigour. The CSV carries one row per course, then a summary row per term and a cumulative row, ready for a spreadsheet.

The calculator’s current working term is not included, because it has not been saved yet. Save it first if you want it in the file. One export is free; unlimited PDF and CSV export is part of Pro.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Simply GPA?

Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, search for Simply GPA, and tap Get. It is free to download, and it opens into a working calculator after two or three setup questions about how your school grades.

Is Simply GPA free, and what does Pro unlock?

Working out a GPA is free: unlimited courses, every grading scale including one you build yourself, weighted and unweighted figures, the show the maths panel, and your first two saved terms. Pro is one payment of US$6.99 and adds unlimited saved terms, the target planner and required-final solver without a run limit, multi-term trend charts, unlimited PDF and CSV export, and optional iCloud sync.

Is there a subscription or a free trial?

No. Simply GPA Pro is a single purchase that is yours to keep. There is no subscription, no renewal, no expiry and nothing to cancel, and there is no trial period to remember.

Will it work with my school’s grading scale?

Very likely. Eleven scales ship with the app: 4.0 with plus and minus, 4.0 letters only, weighted 5.0, percentage, 10 point CGPA, CGPA 4.0, 5 point CGPA, 7 point GPA, 9 point GPA, UK degree classification and GCSE 9 to 1. If none of them match, build your own row by row at no cost.

How many terms can I save for free?

Two, and they come with the cumulative GPA they produce. If you want to save a third, you can replace one of the two at no cost, or unlock Pro for as many as you like. Replacing asks before it does anything and can be undone.

How often can I use the planner for free?

Three times on each term you are working on, for both the target planner and the required-final solver. Opening the planner and looking at it costs nothing: a run is counted only when you have changed something and it has an answer for you. Saving a term and starting the next one starts a fresh three.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. There is no account, no sign-in and no password to lose. Your terms, courses and settings live on your device, which is also why there is nothing for us to recover if you delete the app without exporting first.

Where are my grades stored, and who can see them?

On your device. We cannot see them. They stay there unless you switch on iCloud sync, and then they go to your own private iCloud, which we cannot read either. There are no adverts, no account and no tracking or analytics beyond your own purchases.

What does iCloud sync do, and is it on by default?

It is part of Pro and ships turned off. Switch it on and your terms, courses and custom scales are kept in your own private iCloud, so a new phone starts where the old one left off. It needs an iCloud account signed in on the device and takes effect the next time you open the app.

Does Simply GPA work offline?

Yes. Every calculation happens on your device, so the calculator, your saved terms and the planner all work without a connection. You need one to download the app, to buy or restore Pro, and to sync with iCloud.

How do I export my grades?

Open Settings and choose Export as PDF or Export as CSV, then pick a destination from the share sheet. The file covers your saved terms, so save the term you are working on first if you want it included. One export is free, and unlimited export is part of Pro.

Is Simply GPA accessible?

Yes. The app supports VoiceOver, Dynamic Type up to the largest accessibility sizes, and both light and dark themes. Grade bands are never signalled by colour alone: every one carries its own label.

Is Simply GPA suitable for children?

It carries a 4+ age rating, with no adverts, no account and no third-party tracking. Nothing is shared with anyone else, so a parent or guardian has nothing to moderate.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a course or a term in the app, or delete the app to remove what is stored on the device. If you switched iCloud sync on, that copy lives in your own iCloud account, and you can remove it in the Settings app under your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage. Because we hold no copy, we cannot delete it for you.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Sign in with the same Apple Account you bought Pro with, open Simply GPA, and choose Restore purchases in Settings or Restore on the unlock screen. If it cannot find the purchase, check you are signed in with the Apple Account that paid for it.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple Account you bought with, choose “Request a refund”, and select your purchase.

Will the figure match my school’s official GPA?

It matches when the settings match. Institutions differ on rounding, repeats, pass and fail rules, transfer credit and how much rigour is worth, so Simply GPA lets you set each of those and shows you the working. Treat it as a study tool rather than a system of record, and check anything important against your official transcript.

How do I contact support?
